William Ballard Hurd was born on the 19 th of August 1977 in San Antonio Texas. He is the son of an African-American father and a Caucasian mother, his ethnicity is therefore African-American. The young Hurd grew up in San Antonio and attended various public schools in Texas. For his high school education, he attended John Marshall High School from where he graduated in 1995. For his college education, the future congressman attended Texas A&M University where he studied computer science (major) and international relations (minor). He graduated with a B.Sc. in the year 2000.
While studying at Texas A&M, Hurd attended a lecture organized by a former CIA agent-turned-professor, James Olson. He was intrigued by what we heard and with the help of Olson, he joined the CIA. He worked as an undercover agent for nearly a decade, 2000 to 2009. His work for the agency took him to various parts of the world (including the Middle-East and Southeast-Asia) where he spent time collecting intelligence, recruiting spies and gathering secrets. Upon leaving the CIA in 2009, Hurd worked for various companies including a cybersecurity firm (Fusion X) and a strategic advisory firm (Crumpton Group LLC).

Will Hurd is a product of an interracial marriage. His father, Robert Hurd is African-American while his mother, Mary Alice, is Caucasian. His parents met in Los Angeles in the 1970s. At the time, his dad, Robert was a traveling salesman while his mom, Mary Alice, was a buyer for a departmental store. They dated for a short while and eloped to Reno city Nevada where they got married. They later relocated to Texas due to job demands. Hurd’s parents endured difficulties finding a home just because they were an interracial couple. Asides his parents, Will Hurd also has other family members. They are a brother, Charlie, and sister, Liz.

1. Hurd is the first black man to be elected to Congress from Texas on the platform of the GOP.
2. Additionally, he is one of just seven black people to have been elected into the United States House of Representatives on the platform of the Republican Party.
3. One can boldly assert that Hurd was born to be a leader. While in college, he served as president of the student body in 1999.

6. In 2017, Hurd and Beto O’Rourke a fellow Texan congressman (Democrat) embarked on a long road journey together, from Texas to Washington.
