He subsequently expanded his horizon to the internet, creating a YouTube channel in 2010. His videos and vlogs have equally been a big hit, drawing at least two billion views. For his work, Neistat has received several awards and collaborated with companies such as Nike and CNN. Continue reading for more on his bio, wife, kids, net worth, height etc.

Bio and Age – Who is Casey Neistat?

Casey Owen Neistat was born on the 25th of March 1981 in Gales Ferry, a village in Connecticut. He is one of four children born to Jewish parents, Amy and Barry Neistat. Others are Van Neistat, Dean Neistat and Jordan Neistat. As a child, Casey Neistat had an independent, artistic spirit which the four walls of a school could not contain. He dropped out of high school at the age of 17 and started forging his own way in life. He worked various odd jobs in Connecticut for three years before moving to New York. In New York, he continued his side jobs and eventually shot his first film in 2001. The series (which was a collaborative project with brother, Van) focused on the artwork of American contemporary artist, Tom Sachs. Neistat shot to fame in 2003 as a result of a short film titled iPod’s Dirty Secret . The 3-minute film criticised Apple’s no replacement policy with regard to iPod batteries. The policy was harsh and didn’t take into consideration the fact that the battery could die due to no fault of the owner. The video roused the attention of the public and the news was picked up by major outlets such as BBC, CBS, Fox News, Rolling Stone and Washington Post (which described the video as wonderfully renegade). Following the release of the video, Apple announced a review of its battery policy but maintained that the change of heart had nothing to do with Neistat’s video.

Aware of the limitless opportunities offered by social media, Casey Neistat decided to expand his career. He opened his YouTube channel in 2010 and started uploading short videos as well as vlogs. Some of the most notable ones are – Emergency Brake by Casey Neistat (the video criticised the confusing guidelines with regard to when a train’s emergency brake should be pulled), Bike Lanes by Casey Neistat (which highlighted the hazards bikers face when using designated bike lanes) and Snowboarding with the NYPD, a video of Neistat being towed through the deserted streets of New York following a terrible blizzard. It got 6.5 million views in the first 24 hours alone). Aside from filmmaking, Neistat has also been involved in other ventures such as Beme (a video sharing app which he co-designed) and 368 – described as a creative space for creative minds to gather and collaborate. The YouTube star is also a highly sought-after public speaker and has spoken at various conferences including the 2011 Nantucket Project. He usually talks about filmmaking and life in general.

What’s His Net Worth?

Neistat currently has a net worth of $15 million. The young man who once lived in a trailer park, and had to share toilets with strangers has certainly done well for himself. The YouTube sensation made his fortune from YouTube’s monetization policy. Additionally, Neistat has also earned money from his commercials for companies such as Samsung, Google, Mercedes-Benz, J.Crew and Nike. His 2012 video for a Nike ad, Make It Count, was a viral sensation and has been described as “the best branding story ever told”.
